Dealing with Pain

Seeing the disciple troubled and muttering to himself, Guru Ji called him to the Meditation room.

It was obvious that the younger man was facing inner upheaval.

Offering a comfortable seat Guru Ji asked,” What is wrong, young man”.

The Dejected disciple replied, “The cruel world and its cosmic designs are becoming unbearable. Peers treat me like dust, my friends have been humiliating me and my academic progress is at stand still. Negative forces are conspiring against me.”

After a small pause he asked “What should I do, how should I fortify myself?”

Guru Ji casually asked, “Did you know that tiny animal Meerkats eats Scorpions?”

“What?”

“It’s amazing.  These cute little guys attack and eat poisonous scorpions.  It seems that they have been stung so often that they have become resistant to their poison and it does not hurt them.”

“What?” the disciple responded incredulously.

“And then there are beautiful little frogs in South America who are extremely toxic.

They are born fine but get their toxins from the food they eat and it builds up in their system until they become dangerous to eat.

Their bright colors warn potential predators to keep their distance.”

The disciple shook his head, “I don’t understand, I was expecting motivational advice but I am getting a biology lesson.”

Guru Ji smiled. “When you experience the poison of pain, you have two choices.

Either be like the Meerkat and use the experience to become more resilient.

Or be like the frog, allowing the poison to rise up in your system until you’re toxic and everyone wants to keep their distance.”

Everyone experiences pain, how you respond is up to you. You can be a Meerkat or Frog the choice is yours.

Make a choice how you will respond to the pain & stay blessed forever.
