Invest in yourself

When you fly on an airplane, before the flight takes off, the flight attendant instructs you “Put your oxygen mask on first, before helping others”.

Why is this an important rule for ensuring survival?

Its because if you yourself run out of oxygen, you can’t help anyone else with their oxygen mask.

Put more simply: If you are not healthy, you can’t help anyone else.

Its too easy to forget the importance of investing in ourselves when we have so many competing priorities.

There seems to always be a fire to attend to or something urgent demanding our attention on the to-do list.

It’s all too easy to allow the urgent to become the enemy of the important. However, as I’ve learned firsthand, when we stop investing in ourselves, we stop growing.

Exactly what investing in yourself looks like can vary wildly depending on where you are in your life and what is important to you.

There is no one-size-fits-all formula. Throughout my life and career, I’ve made a concerted effort to invest in myself; however, I had to learn that sometimes investing in yourself can mean giving yourself time to adapt to change, not trying to pile on additional challenges, at times it may mean balancing family and work, at times, it may be sitting out health issues over everything else.

Investing in yourself is a lifelong process, and it requires dedication, self-reflection and a commitment to continuous learning and growth.

You’re bound to go through different seasons of your life that require different types of investment.

By prioritizing the right kind of self-investment for you at the right time of your life, you can develop a growth mindset that empowers you to achieve your full potential in both your personal and professional life.

As the saying goes,“Time flies, but you’re the pilot.”

So, start today by identifying an area you want to invest in and take that first step.

Who knows where it will take you?

Invest in yourself first and stay blessed forever.
