The Harsh Truth is, that there is someone out there, way less qualified than you, living the life you want, achieving the things you want, simply because they took action, and you didn’t.
We live in the golden age of information. Everything is freely accessible at the touch of a button.
But all of that information has a downside: It can become a silent excuse for inaction.
Most people spend years gathering information and avoiding action.
In hindsight, they can admit they were using the information gathering to hide from their fear of action.
Information gathering threatens to turn us into a rocking horse: Always moving, never going anywhere.
We need to find a balance between information and action.
In “Atomic Habits,” the New York Times bestselling book, James Clear, writes,
“There is a common mistake that often happens to smart people — in many cases, without they ever realizing it.
The mistake has to do with the difference between being in motion and taking action. They sound similar, but they’re not the same.
When you’re in motion, you’re planning and strategizing and learning. Those are all good things, but they don’t produce a result.
Action, on the other hand, is the type of behavior that will deliver an outcome.”
Buying a book is Motion, actually reading it is Action.
Sometimes motion is useful, but it will never produce an outcome by itself.
It doesn’t matter how many times you go talk to the personal trainer in the gym or take the Gym membership, that motion will never get you in shape.
Only the action of Working Out will get the result you’re looking to achieve.
In our business of wealth management, we come across this everyday.
Every investor gathers all the information, they go through the motions, and promise us and themselves that they will start tomorrow, but tomorrow never comes.
They have all kinds of excuses, ‘The market is too high,’ ‘waiting for a raise,’ ‘I will discuss it with my family,’ let’s do it over the weekend etc etc.
Real wealth and real gains are made by those who start , not by those who decide to start.
Get over your excuses,
Dopamine from ‘Motion’ and information gathering is a dangerous drug.
Get your dopamine from Action and stay blessed forever.
