Swami Vivekananda gives a beautiful explanation on the power of Association:“The rain drop from the sky: If it is caught in hands, it is pure enough for drinking. If it falls in a gutter, its value drops so much that it can’t be used even for washing the feet. If it falls on hot surface, it perishes.
If it falls on a lotus leaf, it shines like a pearl and finally, if it falls on an oyster, it becomes a pearl. The drop is the same, but its existence and worth depend on who it associates.”
This is why there is so much truth in the saying “birds of a feather flock together”.
Just take for example a flock of birds migrating over continents during changing seasons.
If one bird attempts that long distance migration on his own, he won’t make it.
If he tries to join just any flock of birds flying by, he might not end up where he wants to be. It is only when he joins his own kind; birds heading into the direction he wants to go into, that he will eventually reach his end destination.
It’s the same with people. When you want to grow, it is worthwhile to think about the power of association. Surround yourself with “people like you, who share a common vision, have similar values and on the same mission and on the same path as you.
Whether you want to become fit, build a business, or have a better mindset, you need the right people around you.
Who you associate with is too important to be left to chance.
If you want to move ahead and grow, start with an audit of your circle.
Replace or limit the negative people in your life with those who will help you grow.
You need to associate with people who inspire you, people that challenge you to raise higher, people that make you better.
The power of association influences what and how you think, speak and do.
If you want more in life, surround yourself with those who push you further along the journey.
Look around and see who is your role model, who you want to spend more time with (online and offline), Who can you learn from? Whose business do you want to model your own business after?
Then go out actively and start spending more time with them, learn from them and start working with them.
Spend most of your time with people who ask difficult questions, who make you uncomfortable, who challenge you to grow and stay blessed forever.
