I recently came across another interesting four letter word.
The internet has a brand-new anxiety term everyone is suddenly talking about: FOFO – or fear of finding out.
It is essentially a psychological roadblock that stops people from digging deeper into a potential problem because they’re terrified of what they might discover. But the good news is you can always overcome this.
For years, society fixated on the FOMO – Fear of Missing Out, the drive to do more, see more, be more.
FOFO is the opposite: it’s not about chasing life, but avoiding its realities.
Most of us know what Fomo feels like, that anxious buzz that everyone else is doing something exciting while we’re left out.
But FOFO is a much more sneaky kind of fear that many people are struggling with today, and it has nothing to do with missing out.
It’s a worry so real that people avoid getting medical tests done, checking their health reports, taking feedback from clients, opening bank statements, having fifficult conversations or even reading a difficult email.
Instead of facing uncomfortable information, many prefer not to know at all.
As is often the case, it all starts with anxiety. It’s an attempt to control an uncertain situation. It is a classic reflex to flee what frightens us to ease the immediate tension.
The best way to avoid FOFO is asking yourself: what happens if I continue to avoid? How will I feel in a year? How much harm will accrue further in case I avoid.
Don’t follow the ‘Ignorance is bliss’ principle, Face your fears & stay blessed forever.
