Life has a way of thwarting our best-laid plans.
Out of nowhere, we’re suddenly confronting the end of a relationship, an unexpected diagnosis, the loss of a job, or some other twist of fate.
Many a time, we ruminate about the missed opportunity, the hasty decision, have FOMO seeing others supposedly less capable doing better or living better, etc. etc.
In these moments, it can feel like we’re free-falling into the unknown, thinking deeply and repeatedly, often dwelling on negative feelings, problems, or regrets, getting stuck in repetitive thought loops rather than moving toward solutions,
….and into an endless cycle of rumination.
At these tough times,
We find it is difficult to think our way into a better mood.
When we sit and ruminate, the problem usually grows larger in our mind.
But if we get active — even if it’s unrelated to the problem at hand — our mood tends to improve.
Action usually breaks the spell. Move your body, go outside, play an instrument, work in a different room, do something.
For me, what usually works in these situations, is early morning walks, reading a self help book or writing my way out of negativity.
Movement changes our state and when our state changes, our perspective changes.
New solutions suddenly appear. We tend to notice options that were invisible when our mind was stuck running the same loop.
It’s human nature to think about past mistakes.
But, rumination can only increase the problem.
In 2026, don’t Ruminate but learn from the lessons life is trying to teach you, move on & stay blessed forever.
