In ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,’ there’s a scene in which Alice reaches a fork in the road and has a simple exchange with the Cheshire Cat:
“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat.
“I don’t much care where” said Alice.
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat.
It’s a clever exchange, but holds a deep truth: If you aren’t clear on where you want to go, any road will take you there.
You may find yourself putting in years of effort, toiling away in constant motion, only to realize you’ve been walking in circles.
It reminded me of one of my favorite quotes from Lao Tzu:
“If you do not change direction, you may end up where you’re heading.”
The harsh truth is that most people spend a lot of time designing their ideal vacations but no time on designing their ideal life.
So, here’s a simple reset, paraphrasing the words of the Cheshire Cat:
Where do you want to get to?
Think deeply about this. Be specific.
What do you actually want your life to look like:
Where do you live? What does the space feel like?
Whom do you live with?
Who are you close to?
What are you doing on an average day?
What are you working on?
What possessions bring you joy?
What does your financial life look like?
With clarity on the destination comes clarity on the action.
The noise fades,
The wandering eyes focus,
The insecurity disappears.
Always remember: Life is about direction, not speed.
It’s better to climb slowly up the right mountain than fast up the wrong one.
Bring clarity in your life & stay blessed forever.
