“Be an encourager, the world is full of critics already” is something that I try to live by.
It means that instead of adding to the negativity and criticism that already exists in the world, actively choose to uplift and support others by offering encouragement and positive feedback; essentially, there are already enough people pointing out flaws, so focus on being someone who builds others up instead.
In writing this post, I decided to see what the dictionary has to say about encouragement. Here are some of the synonyms I found: hearten, cheer, buoy up, uplift, inspire, motivate, spur on, fire up, stimulate, invigorate, vitalize, embolden, fortify, rally, support, help, champion, promote, further, foster, nurture, cultivate, strengthen, boost, fuel, persuade, coax, urge, influence.
Don’t you just love those words!?
For me, to encourage others means to fill them with courage, so that they can do what it is they might fear.
Nobody will ever remember how you look, how you speak, what you did.
The only thing they remember lifelong about you is how you made them feel.
When you see something beautiful in someone, tell them.
It may take you a second to say it but for them, it would last a lifetime.
The strongest drug that exists for a human being is another human being.
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
This weekend, remember to offer words and gestures that inspire, spur on, embolden, fortify, champion & nurture people.
Fill them with the courage they need & stay blessed forever.
