Allow yourself to be bored

“The monotony and solitude of a quiet life stimulates the creative mind.” ~Albert Einstein.

I don’t remember the last time when I allowed myself to be bored.

At the slightest hint of boredom, I used to shift to the social media, checking messages, posting updates etc or start reading something.
So much so, that even while travelling, I had a ready list of articles to be read, podcasts or the YouTube downloads on my Ipad.

Thus, even in my liesure time, I was getting exhausted.

Then. I decided to take a boredom break and allow myself to be bored.

I started by dedicating 5 to 10 minutes to doing absolutely nothing, such as simply sitting, gazing out a window, or focusing on my breath.

I found that when I stripped out digital distractions and allowed myself to feel boredom, I was more motivated to do more fulfilling things and come up with my most interesting ideas.

Boredom has allowed me to discover hobbies and interests outside of digital entertainment. Boredom is what pushes me to read, to write, to meditate (where I come face to face with boredom, my distracted mind, and the void).

It’s when I felt bored that I decided to pick up a new hobby and improve upon an existing one. I started tinkering with things and learning and I started to plan.

Boredom promotes day dreaming, and wandering off into other realms of the mind which is very healthy for healing. Sometimes we need a mental escape because the world is a lot to deal with. And it’s better to find solace within one’s own mind than to keep reaching for our technology and seeking the answers externally.

Being bored actually has been proven to stimulate creativity, although that may seem counterintuitive.

Going for a walk and just letting yourself look at the trees and think will often prompt new ideas that you’ve never considered before.

When we let ourselves be bored, we give the mind a break from constantly working and taking in new information.

We actually give ourselves some time to let the mind make connections between things we already know, which is how creativity works – blending a couple of familiar things to make a new one. It is also the core of innovative problem-solving.

Being able to sit with yourself and enjoy your own company is a powerful skill.

Let boredom become your friend & stay blessed forever.
