The last few days I have been preparing to pass on the baton as the venerable institution I was heading, gets ready to elect a new team.
Some elements contesting the elections were hell bent in spoiling the family ethos and camaraderie that our institution represents.
Allegations were made, baseless complaints filed, negative energy flowed but I decided not to respond and rose above the negativity and got on with my task of ensuring that the better team wins.
This phrase that Harrison Ford once said was a great pillar for me in this challenging time:
“They will criticize you for what you are,
For what you are not,
and For what they think you are.
They will judge you for what you do,
For what you don’t do, and For what you fail to do.
They will talk about you for what you say and for what you keep silent about.
They will point at you for your successes and for your mistakes, for your decisions and for your doubts.
No matter how much you try to please, there will always be opinions.
So, live for yourself, because in the end, the only thing that matters is being true to your own path.”
The real reward for doing your best work is the leader you become.
Leadership’s not about a title-It’s about believing in yourself–even when no one else believes in you.
It’s about being excellent when others just coast.
It’s about being radically optimistic and ferociously committed.
Leadership is not about being the best, it’s about making everyone else better.
Be a true leader, rise above the negativity & stay blessed forever.
