We’ve all heard a lot about ‘Bubbles’ lately in the Covid times.
Many groups had isolated themselves in bubbles to escape the dreaded virus.
But, don’t we all live in bubbles of some kind?
Many of us live in our own little worlds—sometimes called “echo chambers” or “silos”—surrounded by friends who share similar opinions and outlooks and even neighbors who may think or even look like us.
On social media, we tend to follow like-minded people and can easily unfollow those who aren’t of similar opinions.
We all live in bubbles.
Some of these bubbles are made of money.
Some are made of power. Some of pride.
Some of hate.
Some of lust.
Some of loss.
The question isn’t whether you are in a bubble, but how often do you get out of it? How often do you escape your bubble to see the world in a different light?
Because failing to escape can lead to a rude awakening.
You can chase money or power or beauty or some other idea that eventually leads you astray.
You can win that game, but lose yourself in the process. Victorious in battle, but defeated in war because there is much more to life than what is in your bubble.
You just have to escape it once in a while to find out.
By getting out of your comfort zone, you can expand your horizons, meet new and interesting people and gain a deeper understanding and even empathy for the experiences that others have.
Along the way, you might even learn something new & better.
When it comes to gaining a broader perspective, the underlying theme is this: Be curious, Ask questions, Initiate conversations, Seek knowledge, Talk to people who have different opinions than you do, travel to newer places.
Leaving your comfort zone and entering new territory takes initiative and intent. After all, our bubbles are built on years of experience and we are very comfortable being in them. They’re not going to burst in just one day.
A new year is about to start, Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do, than by the ones you did do.
So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour, Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Get out of the artificial ‘Bubble’ that you have created for yourself, move to new horizons and stay blessed forever.
