After the exercise on ‘Letter to your future self,’ another exercise to be done is the thought experiment of meeting your child self and explaining your life to them.
Would the child be impressed with the life you’ve lived so far?
This got me thinking: “How would I describe my life to twelve-year-old me if I met him? Would my child self be impressed with what I’ve accomplished and the life I’ve lived so far?”
Would my life be inspirational for my 12 year old self?
Would my 12-year-old self say you are my Hero!
As I started to go over my successes & failures over my years on this planet so far, I was truly floored at the long list of accomplishments.
I have a wonderful family who are loving and we care for each other.
Remembering the places I have been, the people I have met, and I realized I have worked or volunteered for some pretty amazing organizations and led them from the front and left them in a better shape than when I found them.
I have managed to author two books, even though they are not bestsellers by far, I write a daily motivational blog which I send out to more than 15000 people, which even if it touches one person everyday, I feel my job is done, though it touches many more from the feedback I get.
I may not have the material wealth that I may have aspired as a young adult or a 12 year old but I have something more – Contentment and a sense of positivity and hope that better things are on the way.
I may have had some major health issues along the way, but I am doing fine now and enjoying life and no major health issue constraints me.
Despite many ups and downs in my professional life, Iam enjoying the work Iam doing now.
I feel I have found my calling & Iam learning constantly and adding value for my clients.
Iam an encourager and not a critic and I try and spread positivity and give optimism and hope to people I meet and touch in my everyday life.
It has taken a long time for me to realize that I truly have accomplished so much.
I don’t normally like to brag like this, but I list all of my accomplishments for a reason.
You have a list too! You have accomplished so much in your life, but yet we focus so much on what we “failed” at or that our path does not look like someone else’s path.
Remember this quote from Albert Einstein, “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.”
So, don’t focus on mistakes & failures but focus on what you have truly achieved.
So I ask you today If your 12-year-old self met you now what would they think?
So, go grab that cape, put it on and list everything you have accomplished since you were 12.
No matter how small you think it was write it down and remember you are a Hero!
Be proud while talking to your 12-year-old self & stay blessed forever.
